House:

Our permanent meeting host is the American Legion Post 166 located at Coastal Hwy and 23rd streets.

Please enter through the handicapped door on the 23rd street north side.  All membership meetings begin at 7:30pm on the second Thursday of each month.  However, all Roost members are invited to arrive early for food and drink specials at reasonable prices - a great place to have dinner before or during the meeting.  The Post only accepts cash for purchases.

The only likely changes to the meeting schedule are for an outside summer meeting at our annual family picnic and for a conflict at the post during the September bike week.

During football season we are invited to the Post for a game viewing party with the big projection screen along with tailgating food and drinks for sale.

Thanks,

Ron

AGH Penguin Swim:

The RR44 Penguin Swim Team will be sponsoring a guest bartending fundraiser at Ocean 13 on Thursday 10/10 from 6 to 9pm.  That was the only date that worked for everyone involved at the restaurant and AGH.  I know that is the date of the October Roost meeting, but maybe members can stop by after the meeting?  I would like to have a couple Roost celebrities get behind the bar for a half hour or so that evening.  It could be either before or after the Roost meeting if that helps.

Please let me know if you can make it.

Tickets for the annual End of Year Raffle will be available soon.  Prizes include; An amethyst pendant from Park Place Jewelers, $700 worth of Gift Cards to various local restaurants, an In-Home Catered Seafood Dinner for 6 from The Shrimp Boat, and A basket of Cheer.  Tickets are $10/each, 3 for $25, and 5 for $40.

Please consider joining the RR44 Penguin Swim Team.  The goal is to have each Team member raise donations from friends & family, as well as helping the Team raise additional funds through the special events listed above.  We will have a Hospitality Suite at the Princess Royale Hotel where the swim takes place.  All Roost members are welcome to attend the event to cheer on and support the Team.  Team members DO NOT have to get fully in the ocean!!  You only have to get your feet wet.  And there is a heated indoor pool to jump into to warm up afterwards.  There will be a signup sheet at

the meeting if you want to join.

Game Bus:

Ravens Roost 44 Home Game Trip is cancelled due to lack of group sales by the Baltimore Ravens.  However…

Ocean Pines Rec and Parks is trying to get a trip together.  This is from Kevin Powell @ Rec and Parks:

We’d like to get a 57-passenger bus for this.

Ends up being about $475/person

Includes all food/beer/wine/seltzer/soda for 2 hours before game, bus transportation and a ticket to the game.  Also, Poe, the Cheerleaders and the Marching band would visit the tent while we all eat and enjoy some beverages. Seats would be in first 3 rows of 500 level.

Let me know if your Ravens Roost folks would be interested, please

Thanks,
Kevin

Local Poop

·       46th Annual Sunfest Kite Festival 2024, September 19th thru September 22nd, 9:00am - 5:00pm, 3rd St - 7th St, Ocean City, MD 21842.

See the skyline of Ocean City explode with color at this weekend’s Sunfest Kite Festival, on the famous downtown Boardwalk.  Celebrating its 46th year, this world class event is recognized as one of the top 100 most popular venues on the planet.

All are welcome to witness and participate in general kite flying, kite flying games, Bol races, candy drops, sport kite demos, or just plain kite spectating.  AND IT’S FREE!

You can expect to see a ton of new giant kites from Mermaids, Hippocampus, Angels, Octopuses, Alligators, Trilobites, Mel the giant Whale, Whisper the Winged Horse, Dragons, Woodstock, Snoopy and on and on.  This will certainly pack Ocean City’s famous Boardwalk with spectators.

In addition, there will be quad line demos throughout the festival.  Quad kites are four-line kites flown in formation, much like the Thunderbirds.  Several times during the festival we will have as many as 16 quad flyers standing side by side, flying to music, all in perfect formation.

Be sure to bring the kids down for the Candy Drops where we drop candy from a large kite.  We will do several of these on both Saturday and Sunday.

Over the course of 4 days, you can expect to see the following taking place all day long:

o   Giant Kite Air Show

o   Sport Kite and Quad Kite Demos

o   Kite Trains

o   Free Sport Kite Lessons

o   Candy Drops

o   Giant Bubble Show

o   Running of the Bols

All the events listed above are wind and weather permitting. So, if you don’t see any kites flying, it’s because there is not enough wind or it’s raining.  Please keep in mind that all the kites you see on the beach are owned by the kiting enthusiasts that attend the event.  Feel free to take pictures, but be respectful of their kites and display banners.  We want everyone to enjoy the event so please join in the flying fun.  You can bring a kite or purchase one at The Kite Loft and fly in the Small Kite Field.

Funny Poop

As the lawyer slowly came out of the anesthesia after surgery, he said, "Why are all the blinds drawn, doctor?"

"There's a big fire across the street", the doctor replied. "We didn't want you to think the operation was a failure."

Baltimore Ravens, let’s go

And put that ball across the line

So, fly with talons spread wide

Go in and strike with Ravens pride

Fight! Fight! Fight!

Ravens dark wings take flight

Dive in and show them your might

For Baltimore and Maryland

You will fly on to victory
