Greetings from the Prez:

WOW What a game on Sunday..I hope all were watching that thriller and came out of it with nerves intact!! Looking forward for Steve’s analysis of the game..

I was glad to see our Rooster members having a good time at the mini- golf outing, Pirate Cruise and the Bull & Oyster Roast at Burley Oak..also upcoming events at the Forgotten Fifty and the Seacrets Distillery tour will keep our activity levels going for the Fall..A shout out to Jim/Sara Brown..Donna/Tony Chaplinski..Gary Miller and Theresa Williams for setting up and scheduling these events..please see the Entertainment Committee report for more social activities for the rest of the year!!

Mother Nature unfortunately reared its ugly head this past week/weekend with the nor’easter..canceling the Oceans Calling festival and causing flooding, high winds and power outages..I hope all were unscathed by the storm to their homes/properties..

As you all know my wife Carol has been in the hospital this past week..the Doctor didn’t like the condition of the wound healing process and she needed a second surgery..she wants to give out a big Thank You for the flowers and Ravens balloon that the Roost sent her..that lifted her spirits in a huge way..also we had her hospital room rockin during the Ravens game!..please keep her in your prayers as she is recovering

The Orioles season has come to an end and I’m sure there will be changes (what I do not know) but we have the Ravens starting off strong to keep the next Flight going..till next time GO RAVENS

Entertainment:

Fall dance being considered for future.
Theresa has reserved a Seacrets Distillery Tour, Saturday, October 3rd at 3pm. It’s $15/person and lasts about an hour and includes tastings. We can pay the day of the tour but we must guarantee at least 8 people. Maximum on the tour is 16 and takes about an hour. Please let Theresa know if you will attend. Theresa Williams 410-419-9091.

Christmas party. Date is Dec 13th 12:30 to 4:30 at Aloft on 45th and Coastal Hwy. Cost will be $50 per person. Money due by October mtg. We will have crab balls, steamed shrimp, meatballs, pulled pork and cheeseburger sliders, Buffalo crab dip and a dessert bar. They will have a cash bar open. Ravens game against Buccaneers will be on big screen TV.
Would like to have Shrimp/Fried chicken dinner at Legion if we can get enough interested in it. Will have money and plant wheels. Date TBD.
Entertainment mtgs will be at 6:30 before every monthly Roost mtg. Please consider joining so we can plan more fun things to do in the coming year.

Our permanent meeting host is the American Legion Post 166 located at Coastal Hwy and 23rd Street. At the request of the Legion, meetings will now be on the first Tuesday of each month.

Roost members please enter through the handicap door on the 23rd street north side.

Be sure to sign in at the table at the door.

The general membership meeting starts promptly at 7:30. There may be some committee

meetings going on before that. However, members are invited and encouraged to arrive as

early as 6:00 to enjoy drinks and food specials The Post kitchen stays open until 7:30 on

our meeting nights to accommodate us. This is a great time to enjoy the facility and engage

with other members. The Post accepts cash only.

Ocean City is actually pretty busy for the first week of October.

🎵 The big event: Country Calling

Friday & Saturday, Oct. 2–3 — Country Calling takes over the Inlet/Boardwalk area with a major two-day country music festival. The lineup includes Chris Stapleton, Miranda Lambert, Lainey Wilson, Dierks Bentley and Rascal Flatts.

So expect significantly more people, traffic and activity around downtown/the Inlet than you would normally see in early October.

One important bit of recent news: Oceans Calling was completely canceled last weekend because of the nor'easter, but Country Calling is still scheduled for Oct. 2–3.

🎨 Friday — First Friday Art Opening

The Art League of Ocean City is having its First Friday opening reception on Oct. 2, 5–7 PM. It's free, with local and regional artists, hors d'oeuvres and new exhibits.

🍹 Lots of live music

If you're looking for something besides Country Calling, Seacrets has a particularly full schedule this week:

Thursday: Blake Haley, DJ Waxx, DJ E-State, Luke Borchelt
Friday: Faith Noel, DJs and Party Till Dawn
Saturday: Line dancing, Faith Noel, DJ J-Spinz, Nashville Nights Band, Pistol Whipped

🌊 And the beach is still very much an option

Ocean City's official tourism site is specifically promoting fall as a beach season: fewer crowds, wide-open beaches and warm ocean water, along with biking, fishing, golf and dining.

Ocean City Beach is a particularly good bet this week if you're looking for a quieter beach day away from the festival crowds.

🚶 My take for this particular week

If you're in OC now, I'd divide it up like this:

Wednesday/Thursday:
Beach + Boardwalk + dinner + live music. These should be the quieter days.

Friday:
Art League in the afternoon/evening, then either Country Calling or one of the local music venues.

Saturday:
Country Calling will dominate the downtown/Inlet area. If you aren't attending, I'd spend the day north of 40th Street, at the beach, golfing, or in West OC, then come back later.

Sunday:
Much quieter again. Beach, brunch, football and sunset dinner would make for a nice fall OC day.

And if you're looking for dinner this week, some interesting choices include Harrison's Harbor Watch at the Inlet, The Shark on the Harbor Restaurant in West OC, or Oyster & Scales downtown.

Ole and Lena are 69-ing when Ole says, "Lena, did you know there are 117,000 musk ox in Alaska?"

Lena says, "No, I didn't."

Ole says, "And Lena, did you know there are 482,000 grizzly bears living in Alaska?"

Lena says, "No, I didn't. Gee, you're smart."

Ole says, "And Lena, did you know there are more than 2 million caribou living in Alaska?"

"No," says Lena, wondering how this conversation came about in the middle of their sex play.

"How did you get so smart?"

Ole says, "Remember last night when we ran out of toilet paper and had to use the pages out of magazines?"

"Yes, I remember," says Lena.

"Well, you still have page 63 of National Geographic stuck to your ass."
