From the Prez –
Greetings
to all and I bet that we are all staying safe amid this pandemic and not
destroying the house as we encounter a new week
It
looks like a real possibility that this year’s Council of the Ravens Roost
convention held in Ocean City will be canceled.
Even if the Governor and Mayor somehow lift the restrictions it will be
a too short of a window to get things in order.
Stay
tuned if any new developments occur regarding the convention, I will pass them
along to JoAnn.
I’m
coming up blank with things to report for the Poop since there is no activities
this month.
Positive
thinking, praying and hoping for our future events can still take place. The
Entertainment Committee will have a report on that.
Many
thanks for Ron Apperson in keeping the ties on our monthly meeting places.
Sounding
like an old record, but please be safe…keep social distancing…wash hands…and
finish those household chores!

House: Whenever the next two meetings
occur, they are planned to be at Abbey Burger. At the second of those meetings we will vote
on the venue where we will have most of our meetings. All venues where we met will be on the ballot
except OC360 and the Carousel for reason of unsettled conditions. The choices will be: Abbey Burger, Alley Oop,
American Legion, Denny’s 60th St. ,and Mio Fratello (although Mio is likely not
available for more than a few).

Scholarship
Golf: As you know,
the Golf Tourney has unfortunately been cancelled, but fortunately, this year’s
scholarships will be awarded.
Indian River, Stephen Decatur and
Worcester Preparatory High School counselors are gathering 2020 Scholar/Athlete
applications for our review in May by our Scholarship Committee. We plan to award scholarships later in May.
Schools haven’t determined if there
will be formal scholarship awards/graduation events yet.

Convention: As Bob stated in the From the
Prez, we are in a holding pattern and we are waiting for the Council's
decision before proceeding with Convention registrations. As soon as we have confirmation, we will let
everyone know what’s going on.
·
Penguin Swim: Fundraising efforts for the 2021 Penguin
Swim Team will be starting sometime in April.
Events in the planning stages include: Wine/Beer tastings at local
wineries and brew pubs, the annual Booze Cruise, Guest bartending events, and
another charity weekend at The Shrimp Boat.
Our Team goal for this year is $16,000.

Entertainment:
o
Entertainment meetings are suspended until further notice.
Christmas party booked for 12/12 from 6 to
10. Upcoming are Duckaneer Pirate
ship mid-August, trip to Tangier Island, hopefully away trip
to Houston, depending on date, pub crawl on Kent Island in May, crab
feast in October and a bull/oyster roast/Halloween party on 10/31, Capitols
game in fall. We'll keep all posted
on dates.

Shorebirds Game: Unfortunately, Marty cannot chair this event committee as hoped, so we
are looking for someone to take over.
July 16 seems to be the likely date, but we need to move quickly - March
is the month the Shorebirds usually try to get a deposit from us. Anyone interesting in heading this event
please contact Donna as soon as possible.
Look for an event sign-up sheet at the next meeting.

Good of the Roost:
o
Join Elks lodge
members and their guests for a fundraiser that will be held in the downstairs
lounge on Sunday, 04/26/2020 in honor of Joann and Bob Elder. The lodge will open at 1:00 p.m. until 6:00
p.m. This date is in stone but other
details have to be finalized.
But here is a
teaser: Spaghetti dinner with two meatballs, marinara sauce, salad, garlic
bread and dessert; $10.00; will be served cafeteria style. Cash bar, regular drink prices. The bar will donate a percentage of the proceeds
to Joann and Bob. A big thanks to Steve
Gough for underwriting this event for the lodge. Again.
Elks Care Elks Share!
Betty Arvin and
Gayle Hughes will be accepting donations of baked goods the night before the
fundraiser (04/25/2020). A sign-up sheet
will be on the door by the ATM machine...please write your name and the item
you will be donating.
Elks are asking
us to donate a Basket of Cheer and any other items like Jerseys, sweatshirts,
tickets to a game maybe that can be raffled off to benefit Joann and Bob. Please bring any bottles of Wine or Liquor
WITH A Maryland Stamp (Elks said this is required) to our next 2 meetings March
and April.

"I'm the greatest hitter in the world," he announced. Then, he tossed the ball into the air, swung at it, and missed. "Strike One!" he yelled.
Undaunted, he picked up the ball and said again, "I'm the greatest hitter in the world!" He tossed the ball into the air. When it came down, he swung again and missed. "Strike two!" he cried.
The boy then paused a moment to examine his bat and ball carefully. He spit on his hands and rubbed them together. He straightened his cap and said once more, "I'm the greatest hitter in the world!" Again, he tossed the ball up in the air and swung at it. He missed. "Strike three!"
"Wow!" he exclaimed. "I'm the greatest pitcher in the world!"
