Roost #44 Poop

·         From the Prez –

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY: The House Committee met to discuss ways to improve the flow and service at our monthly meetings.  If you want to have dinner at OC 360 at our Roost meetings, please be advised that you need to order dinner in the bar or dining room BEFORE the meeting.  We WON'T be taking food orders during our Roost meeting.  Only drink orders.  If you order dinner that is not ready by the time the meeting begins, your order will be brought in, but again, NO food orders will be taken during the meeting.  OC 360 has generously offered to have modest snacks on the tables for us at the meeting.  So, if you want to have dinner at OC 360, please come early enough to have dinner BEFORE the meeting.

Please think about stepping up to volunteer for Board and Officer positions and the Golf Scholarship Committee next year.  Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the responsibilities for any of these positions.  eric_waterman@comcast.net or 410-598-4597.

Remember that we collect plastic grocery bags at every Roost meeting.  These bags are used by Diakonia (Local Food Bank & Homeless Shelter) to distribute food contributions to the needy.  My white Ford pickup truck is parked in front of OC 360 at every Roost meeting.  Simply put your plastic bags (tied up tightly) in the bed of the truck.  This is a great way to recycle plastic bags for a good cause.

Fundraising Night at the new Fox's Pizza Den in West OC (in the new SC next to Home Depot and the new Michael's) on Wednesday Oct. 17th, 4pm to 7pm.  15% of your food bill will be donated to the OC RR44 Penguin Swim Team in support of AGH.

If you, or someone you know that was on the Booze Cruise last week, lost a stone out of a ring, please give me a call.  The Boat crew found the stone and I have it.  I was not aware that someone lost a stone until I got a call from the crew.

·         Friday & Saturday - Wine on the Beach, Inlet Lot.  Wine on the Beach has celebrated some of the finest spirits found in our region.  The event spotlights vineyards such as Far Eastern Shore Winery and other other fine Maryland vineyards to be announced soon.  This event also features microbrews from our local craft breweries.

Upon entry, all visitors receive a commemorative wine glass, which they can use to sample pours from the dozens of featured producers.

Regional bands play throughout the two-day wine celebration, setting a lively soundtrack as people explore booths stocked with handmade gifts and fine foods.  To ensure everyone gets home safely, the event has a designated driver program that includes unlimited soft drinks and a fixed number of high fives for participating attendees.

You may use your ticket for one day, either Friday or Saturday.  Tickets are good for one-day admission, commemorative wine glass, and wine tasting sample coupons.  Tickets are non refundable.

Funny Poop

·         An American soldier, serving in World War II, had just returned from several weeks of intense action on the German front lines.  He had finally been granted R&R and was on a train bound for London.  The train was very crowded, so the soldier walked the length of the train, looking for an empty seat.

The only unoccupied seat was directly adjacent to a well dressed middle aged lady and was being used by her little dog.  The war weary soldier asked, “Please, ma’am, may I sit in that seat?”

The French woman looked down her nose at the soldier, sniffed and said, “You Americans.  You are such a rude class of people.  Can’t you see my Little Fifi is using that seat?”

The soldier walked away, determined to find a place to rest, but after another trip down to the end of the train, found himself again facing the woman with the dog.

Again he asked, “Please, lady.  May I sit there?  I’m very tired.”

The French woman wrinkled her nose and snorted, “You Americans!  Not only are you rude, you are also arrogant.  Imagine!”

The soldier didn’t say anything else; he leaned over, picked up the little dog, tossed it out the window of the train and sat down in the empty seat.

The woman shrieked and railed, and demanded that someone defend her and chastise the soldier.

An English gentleman sitting across the aisle spoke up, “You know, sir, you Americans do seem to have a penchant for doing the wrong thing.  You eat holding the fork in the wrong hand.  You drive your autos on the wrong side of the road.

“And now, Sir, you’ve thrown the wrong bitch out the window.”

Roost #44 Poop

• From the Prez – Some members may not be aware that Roost #44 is a member of the Council of Baltimore Raven Roosts. This Council was formed as the successor to the Council of Colt Corrals after the Ravens came to Baltimore in 1996. The Council holds a monthly meeting Catonsville, MD. All Roost presidents or a representative are expected to attend these meetings. Some of the major events that the Council sponsors are the Annual Council Convention and Parade in Ocean City and an annual Bull Roast in Baltimore, which is the prime fund raiser for the Council. The Council also raises significant donations to the Special Olympics of Maryland held at the Polar Bear Plunge at the Bay Bridge and another Plunge held in Western Maryland. Last year, $117,622 was raised by the Council and its members for both Plunges. Dues and funds generated by the Council are donated to various local and regional charities. Since 2007, the Council and its member Roosts have donated over $3,580,067 to charity. In addition, each Roost may apply for charity donation from the Council. Last year Roost #44 was given a $500.00 donation for Diakonia from the Council. At last week's Council meeting, Matthew Judon was present to accept the Council's Unsung Hero Award for 2017.

Currently, the Council has almost 70 members in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia. The Council just approved an application from a city in Germany - Roost #500. Groups from Seattle, Jacksonville and North Carolina are also currently considering applying for membership in the Council.

• Friday - Burgers with Bob of Opposite Directions, Lighthouse Sound Restaurant. Burgers with Bob is Back! Every Friday night in January and February, Bob from Opposite Directions will be playing in our lounge from 6-9pm. A special burger menu will be available on these nights prepared by Chef Joel, plus we will have Happy Hour drinks specials from 4 - 7pm.
• Saturday – Fundraiser @ the Original Greene Turtle to benefit families of local fallen police officers. 6pm – 9pm. $10 includes buffet.

Funny Poop

• After dating a young lady for some time a young man decides it is time to marry her.

He proceeds with all the necessary plans and finally the day comes.

On the day of the wedding the young man has yet to pay the pastor for performing the ceremony. However, the pastor has a plan.

The service proceeds as planned the vows are exchanged etc. Now it is time for the groom to kiss his bride. The pastor sees this as the perfect opportunity to ask to be paid. He pulls the young man aside and asks him. Can you please pay me?

Not wanting to create a seen the young man asked. How much do I owe you?

The pastor thinks quickly and replies, pay me according to your wife's beauty.

The young man discretely pulled out five dollars and gave it to the pastor.

Although annoyed by this, the pastor continues the ceremony and says; you may now kiss the bride. At this point the veil is lifted from the brides face to allow the groom to kiss her. As the groom is about to kiss his new bride the pastor interrupts and promptly hands the groom four dollars and fifty cents.

o    Anyone wanting to nominate member for member of the year must give, in writing, anyone they want to nominate to a board or member or previous winner. Board and previous members will vote by October's meeting.

o    We will have a $10 tailgate at Greene Turtle for each away game.  Also GT is having a "Thank a Police Officer" breakfast on Sept 15^th from 9-11.  Our Roost will be on banner as part sponsor for this.

o    We will be changing our November meeting to 11/3 due to home game on our regular meeting night on 11/10.

·         Bylaws Committee: Please read the attached document in preparation for Thursday’s vote.

·         Tailgate @ Brandywine - As I mentioned at the Aug. meeting, "Brandywine Senior Living at Fenwick Island" has invited RR44 to enjoy a tailgate party with the residents.  The two games we are looking at are Sept. 25^th vs Jaguars and Oct. 23^rd vs The Jets.  Please let me know if you would be interested in attending either of these events.  Gary, 443-618-9972.

2016 Roost Entertainment Activities

o    Boardwalk Bike Ride/ Walk - 2^nd Saturday of September & October.  Meet at 27th Street at 9 AM.  Afterwards some of us go to breakfast at the Sahara on Johnny Unitas Way (19th Street).  Come join us for breakfast whether you did the Boards or not.  Another opportunity to see old friends and make new ones.

o    Crab Feast - Saturday, October 1^st at Shrimp Boat, 1-5 pm.  $35 pp, which includes tax and grat.  Menu includes crabs, fried chicken, corn on the cob, coleslaw, hush puppies, Coors Light and Miller Lite draft, soda, iced tea, and water.  No children please but non-members are okay.  Checks only payable to Ravens Roost #44.  Sign Up Sheet at the August and September meeting and the cutoff date is September 20.

o    Dover Air Museum & Dogfish Brewer Tours Sat. 10/15/16.  Dover AFB tour of museum (many planes we can board - including Reagan's AF1) & Dogfishhead Brewpub Tour/Tasting/Lunch.  The bus has been booked but we only have 18 people so far.  We will limit it to 25 & the cost will be $10 pp (lunch on your own at Dogfish) based on 25.  If we do not have 25 by the meeting on 9/8 it will be open to friends & family.  Those signed up please bring $10 cash to the meeting on 9/8 or 10/13 at the latest.  Less than 25 will increase the price slightly - trying to get $250 for the bus expenses.  We will leave MB shopping center rear @ 8:30 am & will tour the museum for several hours.  We leave there to proceed to Dogfishhead Brewpub in Milton where there will be a brewery tour & a tasting of 4 beers.  We can eat lunch @ Bunyon's Lunchbox & leave when everyone is finished the activities.  Be back to OC late afternoon.  Sign up at the meeting or by calling Ron in advance @ 302-436-4790 or ronapperson@msn.com e-mail.  Opened toed shoes cannot be worn to visit the Dover AFB Mobility Command Museum.

o    Bull & Oyster Roast - October 29^th, 2-6 PM at the American Legion on 23rd St. and Coastal Highway. This is our annual fund raising event!  So bring your friends and family too. ·         After a 4-0 preseason, the reals games begin this week and the Ravens 2016 campaign begins on Sunday @ 1 pm as Rex Ryan, Tyrod Taylor, and the Buffalo Bills come to town to take on the Ravens.  The bus leaves 5 ½ hours before game time (7:30 am for the mathematically challenged).

·         Two men are out ice fishing at their favorite fishing hole, just fishing quietly and drinking beer.  Almost silently, so as not to scare the fish, Rick says, "I think I'm going to divorce my wife - she hasn't spoken to me in over 2 months."
