Roost #44 Poop

• From the Prez – What a Super Bowl! One of the best ever. Four ex-Ravens on the Eagles. Now winter really sets in. See you at the meeting Thursday at OC 360 at 7:30!
  Remember that we collect plastic grocery bags at every Roost meeting. These bags are used by Diakonia (Local Food Bank & Homeless Shelter) to distribute food contributions to the needy. My white Ford pickup truck is parked in front of OC 360 at every Roost meeting. Simply put your plastic bags (tied up tightly) in the bed of the truck. This is a great way to recycle plastic bags for a good cause.

• Entertainment:
  • The next Entertainment Committee meeting will be on Tuesday, February 27^th, 5:30pm, at the original Greene Turtle. We are always looking for new members to join the committee.
  • Mini Golf Tournament:
    • Date, time and place - Thurs. Feb 15^th, 7-9pm, @ Old Pro Indoor on 136th St. Beer,wine,soda,water before,during and after play. Then appetizer type food and prizes at the original Greene Turtle after 9pm. Drinks on your own at the GT. Please arrive no later than 6:45 to get foursome assignments, pre-prepared score cards, equipment and a drink or two to begin with a shotgun start as close to 7pm as possible.
    • Current status: We have 33 players signed up (25 RR members + 8 non-members !). Would be nice to get 3 more members to make 9 foursomes.
    • Format: same as last year: Foursomes of 2 mixed teams of 2 (male/female).
    • Sign up: The last day to do this and PAY is at the Roost meeting Feb 8th. Cash or check payable to Ron Apperson. Currently $30pp due to unknown actual final head count. Looking to rebate several $$pp at the GT if current status hold true.

Local Poop

• Friday - Burgers with Bob of Opposite Directions, Lighthouse Sound Restaurant. Burgers with Bob is Back! Every Friday night in January and February, Bob from Opposite Directions will be playing in our lounge from 6-9pm. A special burger menu will be available on these nights prepared by Chef Joel, plus we will have Happy Hour drinks specials from 4 - 7pm.
• Friday, Saturday, & Sunday - Delmarva Wool & Fiber Expo, Winter Festival of Fibers, Roland E. Powell Convention Center. We have gathered vendors that promote fibers (whether they are wool, fabric, wood, reed, etc) together to educate and promote the natural fiber industry for three days at the Ocean City Convention Center. Along with a shopping experience, there will be ongoing demonstrations at most booths to demonstrate how mittens are knitted, how shawls are woven or how wool is spun all taught; by true artists. Also, there will be limited paid class offerings. Admission: $3 per day or $5 for the weekend.
• Saturday & Sunday - Valentine's Horse & Carriage Rides Along the Boardwalk - Special Valentine's Package, Ocean City Inlet Near Thrasher's. Enjoy a horse & carriage ride along the boardwalk with your sweetheart to celebratentine's Day. Starting at the Inlet Lot near Thrasher's Fries. Saturday and Sunday, February 10-11 and February 17-18. $40 per couple (includes a box of chocolates, a rose, and a glass of bubbly for the ride). • A man is in his front yard attempting to fly a kite with his son. However, every time the kite gets up in the air, it comes crashing back down. This goes on for a while, when his wife stickes her head out he front door and yells “You need more tail”. The man turns to his son and says, “Son, I’ll never understand your mother. Yesterday, I told her I needed more tail, and she told me to go fly a kite!”
• Muldoon lived alone in the Irish countryside with only a pet dog for company. One day the dog died, and Muldoon went to the parish priest and asked, "Father, my dog is dead. Could ya' be saying' a mass for the poor creature?"
  Father Patrick replied, "I'm afraid not; we cannot have services for an animal in the church. But there are some Baptists down the lane, and there's no tellin' what they believe. Maybe they'll do something for the creature."
  Muldoon said, "I'll go right away Father. Do ya' think $5,000 is enough to donate to them for the service?"
  Father Patrick exclaimed, "Sweet Mary, Mother of Jesus! Why didn't ya tell me the dog was Catholic?

Roost #44 Poop

• From the Prez - Very good turnout at July 13^th Roost meeting at the 360 Restaurant. Several members stated they really enjoyed the guest speaker from the Friends of Assateague Island. Remember the August 10^th Roost meeting switches to The Big Easy (the former Halls restaurant) on 60^th St. at 7:30pm. Restaurant is open with full menu before the meeting. Very big thanks to the House Committee - Donna Chaplinski and Ron Apperson for all their work in securing the locations for the June - September Roost meetings.
  As of November 1^st, Jo Ann Elder is resigning as Membership Chairman. Jo Ann has handled all the duties of the Membership Committee basically by herself for years. The Roost By Laws call for a Membership Committee of 3 members. So we are looking for 3 members to step up and handle the duties and functions that Jo Ann has handled by herself. These include processing new member applications, maintaining the Roost Rooster, administering the attendance list at Roost meetings and managing dues collections. Jo Ann will be happy to assist members in learning and becoming comfortable with these functions. By dividing all these duties up by three people, I think the time needed to serve on the Membership Committee will be greatly reduced and manageable for the new Committee members. Please contact me as soon as possible if you are interested in stepping up. We need your help and support! And Jo Ann deserves a break (and our thanks)!
  I will try to have my white, Ford 150 pick up truck in a visible spot at the Big Easy for the next meeting for members who want to bring plastic or paper grocery bags for Diakonia. Thanks, Diakonia really appreciates these donations to help give out food to needy families or individuals.

• Road Trips
  NASHVILLE: Although our group rate for the Union Station Hotel for our Nashville Trip is guaranteed, the people from RR58 had to cancel, so we have 1 room open for the trip. Everyone has paid for the game tickets and shirts. I have paid for the tickets and expect to have a mock-up for the trip shirts soon.
  LONDON: Maggie and I are having a get together to discuss the trip and sightseeing options on Tuesday July 25^th at 7pm at our house at 15 Windward Ct., Ocean Pines, Md. 21811. Call me if you need directions. As of right now I have 12 people that want to take the shuttle up to and back from BWI. The cost is $84/pp. Let me know at the get together if you want to join us. • Entertainment: The Entertainment Committee would like you to join them for the following upcoming events:
  • There is no Entertainment Committee meeting in July. We will hold the Entertainment Committee meeting for August at Abbey Burger on Wednesday August 2^nd at 6pm. Abbey Burger is in the building located directly behind our old Blue Ox room. Please consider joining the Entertainment Committee to help plan our various events.
  • Thursday July 27^th - Shorebirds game. The final sign-up date has passed & we have 53 in our group which includes the 2 bus drivers that we pay into the game. All sign-ups have paid & the Shorebird bill has been finalized & paid. Anyone else desiring to go with us can arrange it by contacting Matt LeBlanc of the Shorebirds @ 410-219-3112, ext. 143. You must tell him you are joining the Ravens Roost group, (You can tell him you talked to me about it), pay for the tickets ($27.50pp) & pick them up at the Will Call box office. He must increase our reserved seating by that no. of tickets. The bus leaves from behind Montego Bay S.C. @ 5:15 pm.
    Enter the stadium by the center steps up to the 2nd level where your tickets will be scanned & you will receive your visor (for the 1st 500) & go straight ahead to the Hard Ball Cafe section where you should get a wristband for the food. Choose you seats at any table marked for us. There is also an elevator from the 1st level; go through the ground level turnstile for scanning & the elevator is straight ahead.
    Free Buffet is open from 6:35 - 8:05, free popcorn & soda starts at 6:05. Thirsty Thursday draft pints are $2.

  • Wednesday, August 16^th – Pirate & Wench Cruise on the Duckaneer!
    • When: Wednesday August 16 (this is a date change from the prior announcement). We had to change the date due to another party booking the boat on the 15th!
    • Time: 7 pm to 9 pm. You must be at the dock at 6:30pm. Come early and catch Happy Hour eats at MR Ducks. Or stay after the cruise and get something to eat then, but no food will be served on the boat.
    • Cost: $20.00, cash bar
    • TRIP IS LIMITED TO 45 people!! Don't get left out! We already have 36 signed up. Four have paid thus far.
    • Where: Talbot Street Pier (MR Ducks). Talbot Street on the Bay.
    • Cruise the lovely Assawoman Bay at sunset. Pillage other boats, maybe annoy the people at Seacrets with the water cannons. Wear your best Pirate or wench costume, or just strap on your wooden leg and an eye patch. This will be a fun evening.

  • Saturday, October 21^st – RR44 Crab Feast, 1-4pm at the Shrimp Boat in West OC. Crabs, corn on the cob, coleslaw, fried chicken, hush puppies, Miller Lite and Coors Light draft. $36pp.

• Now thru Labor Day - 100 Nights of Lights, South End of Ocean City Boardwalk. From Memorial Day to Labor Day the south end of the boardwalk will light up with a new light show every night! The light display will be featured approximately every 20 minutes, from 9pm – 11pm.
• Tonight - Free Movies on the Beach at Carousel Hotel, On the Beach at the Carousel Hotel. Enjoy free movies on the beach every Wednesday from June 7 to August 30 at the Carousel Hotel on 117th St. in Ocean City MD. • A young cowboy was married this morning, and he and his new missus were heading to Dallas for the honeymoon. They were tired and stopped at a small hotel for the night. He explained to the clerk that they were married that morning and needed a room. The clerk asked if he would like the bridal. The cowboy said “Naw, I’ll just hang onto her ears ‘til she gets used to it”.
  
• A group of friends went deer hunting and paired off in twos for the day. That night, one of the hunters returned alone, staggering under the weight of an eight-point buck. “Where’s Tom”?
  “Tom had a nasty fall and broke both of his legs. He’s a couple of miles back up the trail”.
  “You left Tom laying out there and carried the deer back!?!”
  “A tough call”, nodded the hunter, “but I figured no one is going to steal Tom!”
