  • Friday - Aaron Neville Duo at the Freeman Stage, Freeman Stage, 8 pm.  “These songs helped to mold me into who I am,” says Aaron Neville. “They’re all dear to my heart, and they rode with me, in my bones, through all these years.”  With MY TRUE STORY, one of the world’s finest singers is revisiting the music he grew up with, and adding a few new spins along the way. Neville’s first release for Blue Note Records is a collection of twelve classic doo-wop numbers, performed in his utterly inimitable vocal style, and co-produced by Blue Note President Don Was and Keith Richards. The selections on the album include classics by such vocal-group giants as Little Anthony and the Imperials (“Tears on My Pillow”), Hank Ballard and the Midnighters (“Work With Me, Annie”), and the Drifters (“Money Honey,” “Under the Boardwalk,” “This Magic Moment”). Yet the recordings on MY TRUE STORY aren’t simply imitations of the original sessions. For one thing, some of the songs included—like the Ronettes’ “Be My Baby” or “Gypsy Woman” by the Impressions—come from a slightly later time period than the classic doo-wop era, and aren’t usually classified as part of the genre.  “It’s definitely extra-meaningful,” he says. “I have a new life, I’m singing to my wife Sarah. I think God knew I wanted to do it and he waited for the right moment. He made the stars align, and he said, ‘Aaron, it’s time for you to do some doo-wop.’”  Tickets $25 – $45 all ages.  Seating is provided and assigned.

  • Saturday - Donna Washington at the Freeman Stage | Award Winning Storyteller, Freeman Stage, 10 am.  Donna Washington is an award winning storyteller, published author, and educator, who uses dynamic vocal pyrotechnics, an elastic face, and exuberant energy to transport listeners to the far corners of the earth through stories. You will laugh, snort, and stare in wonder. Her tales will take you from the American South, across the Pacific, through Asia, down through Europe, across Africa, through South America, and back again.  Free.  BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair)
  • Saturday - Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at the Freeman Stage, Freeman Stage, 7 pm.  2013 marked the 20th Anniversary of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s remarkable arrival onto the music scene. In it’s first years, having secured their legendary residency at the Derby nightclub in Los Angeles, they reminded the world—in the middle of the grunge era, no less—that it was still cool to swing, big band style. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy hit pop music superstardom with their appearance in front of millions during the halftime show of the 1999 Super Bowl, while their 2003 New Orleans inspired album, Save My Soul, shifted focus to playing theaters, performing arts centers, and large outdoor venues to selling out shows at the Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Lincoln Center, Chastain Park and Constitution Hall, to name just a few. The band often plays more than 150 shows a year and has appeared as special guests with many of the great American symphony orchestras.  $20 for adults; kids are free.  BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair)

Funny Poop
  • A bear walks into a bar. He says, "I'll have a gin... ... ... ... and tonic." The bartender says, "Sure, but what about the big pause?" The bear says, "I was born with them."
  • Joe grew up in a small town, then moved away to attend college and law school. He decided to come back to the small town because he could be a big man in this small town. He really wanted to impress everyone. He opened his new law office, but business was very slow at first. One day, he saw a man coming up the sidewalk. He decided to make a big impression on this new client when he arrived. As the man came to the door, Joe picked up the phone. He motioned the man in, all the while talking... "No. Absolutely not. You tell those clowns in New York that I won't settle this case for less than one million..." "Yes. The Appeals Court has agreed to hear that case next week. I'll be handling the primary argument and the other members of my team will provide support..." "Okay. Tell the DA that I'll meet with him next week to discuss the details..." This sort of thing went on for almost 5 minutes. All the while the man sat patiently as Joe rattled instructions. Finally, Joe put down the phone and turned to the man. "I'm sorry for the delay, but as you can see, I'm very busy. What can I do for you?" The man replied "I'm from the phone company...I came to hook up your phone."
