Weekly Poop 3/29/17

Roost #44 Poop
  • Please note: The June and July Meetings will be at OC 360 and the August and September Meetings will be at The Big Easy on 60.
  • DO NOT bring plastic bags for Diakonia to the April 13th Roost meeting. Eric won't be there to collect them.
  • Public ticket sales for the Freeman Stage will go on sale on Monday April 3rd at 10am. There is a new ticket website this year and would strongly suggest going to freemanstage.org beforehand to familiarize oneself with the 2017 FAQ's. Procedure's are somewhat different than in the past. Also, Justin Tucker will be appearing at the Stage on Sunday June 18. It will be a good time to break out the Raven's wear.
  • Tomorrow at 10am - Dedication of a Bench and Memorial Plaque at City Hall (by the flag pole) in memory of Barry Howard Berger, the only Ocean City native to lose his life in the Vietnam War. Roost #44 donated $500.00 to Vietnam Veterans of America Ocean City Chapter to help fund the Bench and Memorial Plaque.
  • Dates to Remember:
    • Saturday, April 8 – Boardwalk Bike Ride
    • Friday, April 28 – Harrington Trip
    • Friday, May 12 – Brewery Trip
    • June 1 thru June 4 – Roost Convention
    • Friday, June 2 – 20th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament
    • Sunday, July 9 – Summer Picnic
  • Road Trip 2017 – The Ravens game in London will be well represented by RR44. There are 24 people going on some combination of 3 trip options, plus a couple more who have made their own travel arrangements but will be at the game with us. If anyone is still interested, we MAY be able to add a few to the package and the price will probably be higher, but let me know ASAP.
Now that we have the London trip together, I am starting work on a possible trip to Nashville. I need to get a good idea of how many members are interested in going, so please let me know by email and I will have a sign up sheet at the Feb. meeting. I am looking at two options and will let the group decide which one they prefer after we have all the details.
    1) I will order the game tickets, reserve a block of rooms as we have done in the past, letting everyone call to make their own reservations and book their own airfare. There are a number of hotels right downtown that are convenient for walking to the stadium, restaurants, bars and entertainment areas. Downtown Nashville is very easy to navigate by foot and their are plenty of cabs if you need them.
    2) I will get Fandeavor to give us a price on a trip that will include airfare, hotel, game ticket and transportation to and from the airport.
I have looked at several hotel options and have looked at gameday ticket prices, but cant really get a hard number till the date come out in April. Will have details at the April meeting.
Hopefully we will have more to cheer about this season.
    Thanks, Gary.
  • Dues: Dues ($30 per person) are now past due. If you have not done so and plan to remain a member, please make your check payable to Ravens Roost #44 and mail to me at 126 Pine Tree Rd., Ocean City, MD 21842 as soon as possible to avoid being dropped from the membership roll. If you have any questions please e-mail me at jelder10@verizon.net. Don't forget that we are looking for a replacement for me as membership chairperson. Let one of the officers know if you're interested. Jo Ann.
  • Scholarship Golf: There will be a 20th annual scholarship golf tournament this year. Any members who would like to help out can sign up for the golf/scholarship committee at this weeks meeting.
The tournament will be held at the Ocean Pines Golf and Country Club on Friday June 2, 2017. Cost per golfer is $115 and $460 for a team of 4. Includes Golf, Practice range, Golf Awards Luncheon Banquet, Continental breakfast, Gift bag, 2 on-course beverage coupons, $500 Putting Contest, $250 Cash Raffle and kegs at the turn and at the luncheon.
Also, there are sponsorships available: Signature Sponsor ($2,000) includes 2 team entries, 4 tee signs, and tournament banner and tournament banquet recognition. $1,400 without team entries. Major Sponsor ($1,000): 1 team entry, 2 tee signs, and tournament banner and tournament banquet recognition. $700 without team entry. Tee Sign Sponsors-$100.
The committee is also looking for gift cards and new merchandise for the event.
With the $14,200 we will be awarding in scholarships in June 2107, the Roost will have awarded over $160,000 during the lifetime of our grants. Please help us out any way you can to support this cause.
Go HERE for all the info, including sign up sheets.
Thanks, Marc Grimes & Don McMullen, Co-Chairs.
  • Convention: The Annual Convention of the Council of Baltimore Ravens Roosts will be held at the Castle in the Sand Hotel beginning Thursday, June 1 through Sunday, June 4, 2017. The theme this year is "Stark Raven Mad". The registration fee is $60 per adult and $25 per youth (ages 6-20). The form will available at the March meeting.
All registrations must be received by our meeting on April 13. Your registration includes beer and soda Thursday evening, all day Friday and Saturday, and food catered by Beefalo Bob on Friday and Saturday. You will also receive a very nice souvenir package. You will be entitled to participate in any convention-sponsored activities, such as the dunk tank, bingo, scavenger hunt, horseshoes, volleyball, corn holes, crazy hat parade, etc. I will also have a tentative schedule at our meeting. Sign-up sheets for the activities will be available at the April meeting.
I have order forms for tee shirts, tank tops, and hoodies. Prices range from $11 for tees to $28 for hoodies. Colors are ash, purple, and white for men’s tees and tanks; gray, purple, and white for ladie’s tees and tanks, and ash and purple for hoodies. Eric will bring a tee to the meeting for everyone to see. Of course, you don't have to attend the convention to purchase a shirt. Checks for the convention and/or tees are to be made out to Ravens Roost 44.
Mary will have information on the parade. Please plan to attend as a spectator if you are unable to walk in the parade.
This is a great time to sit down, relax and get to know your fellow Roost members and to interact with members of Roosts from all over Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. Anyone who has attended in the past will tell you what a great time it is. If you have any questions about any part of this, please e-mail me at jelder10@verizon.net, or call me at 410-251-4360.
Anyone who would like to participate in any of the convention events should see me before or after the April meeting. The activities are: karaoke, volleyball, horseshoes, cornholes, dunk tank, convention quest (scavenger hunt), crazy hat contest, miniature golf (one team of 2 only), and bingo. You must be registered for the convention to take part.
Volunteers are needed to help set up horseshoes, cornholes, bingo, food, etc. for which you need to be registered. They are asking for only an hour or two per person. Please let me know if you can help.
Volunteers are also needed for the parade. You do not need to be registered to help with that. Again, let me know if you're interested. Thanks, Jo Ann.
  • Convention Parade: Our parade entry this year is going to be a great one. We can't reveal the theme on the internet because of prying eyes--it's a secret! Take our word for it - it's a good one and will generate a lot of attention. If you are interested in walking in the parade, please contact Mary Kendall at mary.kendall@merck.com as soon as possible so we can get the costumes together. We'll tell you all about it at the next meeting, but, again, need your names ASAP. If you have any questions, contact Mary or Jo Ann Elder at jedler10@verizon.net.
  • Penguin Swim:

  • Entertainment: The Entertainment Committee would like you to join them for the following upcoming events:
    • Saturday April 8, 2017: Meet on the boardwalk at 26th Street (where the boardwalk ends and the tram turns around) at 9am for a boardwalk bike ride. We will ride down the boards and then back to Barn 34 (34th Street and Coastal Highway) for breakfast at approximately 10 am. Don’t like to ride bikes? Then just meet us for breakfast at 10 am!
    • Friday April 28, 2017: Harrington Trip - see Mary Kendall’s write up for details and contact Mary for reservations.
    • Friday May 12, 2017: We are taking a bus trip to visit 3 local breweries for beer tasting! We will leave the parking lot at Rose’s on 113 at 12 noon and travel to 16 Mile Brewery in Georgetown DE for a tour of the brewery and beer tasting; then to 3rd Wave Brewery in Delmar where we’ll enjoy beer flights for $3.50 (that’s 1/2 price of usual) and a food truck will be present if you are hungry; then off to Tall Tales in Parsonsburg, MD for more beer tasting and food. We should be back to the Rose’s parking lot by 6pm. Cost for the trip is $30.00 if we fill the bus - this includes the bus trip only. A tip for the driver will be collected on the bus. If we have less than 23 people, the cost per person will increase. Food and beverages at the breweries are on you. This is a small bus so there is no bathroom on the bus - but the breweries all have facilities and are less than 45 minutes apart. The trip is limited to 23 people so don’t miss out, sign up soon. If we have more than 23 people, you’ll be put on a waiting list and filled in if there are drop outs. Payment will be due by the April 13 meeting.
    • Annual Picnic, Sunday July 9, 2017 - 12pm to 5pm - White Horse Park Pavilion, Ocean Pines, MD. This year’s theme will be a Hawaiian Luau complete with a whole roasted pig (by Emmings). Menu will also include fried chicken, baked beans, cole slaw and corn on the cob, beer and soda. Desserts to be determined. Girls and guys — Wear your ugliest Hawaiian shirt end enter the Ugly Hawaiian Shirt Contest - details later on that, but start scouring your closet for that one shirt you haven’t worn in public for a while! Come play Bocce ball and horseshoes with us. If you have a corn hole game or any other fun picnic games, bring them to share. In order to ensure that we have enough food and drinks, sign up and payment for the picnic will begin at the April meeting. We ask that Roost 44 members pay $10 each and that fee will be returned to them at the picnic. Non-members who are immediate family (this includes grandchildren) are welcome to attend and will pay $10 each, which will not be returned to them.
    • The next Entertainment Committee meeting will be on Wednesday April 5, 2017 at 6pm at the Green Turtle. Got an idea for something fun? Come talk to us and have a beer. New members and "oldies but goodies with cobwebs on them" are always welcome.

Funny Poop
  • Jay went to a psychiatrist. “Doc, he said, “I’ve got trouble. Every time I get into bed I think there is somebody under it. I get under the bed; I think there’s somebody on top of it. Top, under, under top. I’m going crazy!”
Just put yourself in my hands for two years,” said the shrink. “Come to me three times a week and I’ll cure you.”
    How much do you charge?”
    A hundred dollars per visit.”
    I’ll think about it.”
Jay never went back. Some time later he met the doctor on the street. “Why didn’t you ever come to see me again? Asked the psychiatrist.
“For a hundred buck a visit? A bartender cured me for 10 dollars.”
    Is that so? How?”
He told me to cut the legs off the bed.”
