The Original Greene Turtle Hosts Ribbon Cutting & 35^th Anniversary Party

Ocean City, MD - On Tuesday, June 14, 2011, The Original Greene Turtle and the Greater Ocean City Chamber of Commerce are hosting a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 4pm. The Turtle is hosting its 35^th Anniversary Party from 3pm-close. They’re being held at the original location of The Greene Turtle on the corner of 116^th St. & Coastal Hwy, in Ocean City, MD.

Steve Pappas, owner of The Original Greene Turtle, members of the O.C. Chamber, various elected officials & dignitaries, along with employees, friends, patrons & family will be standing by as the ribbon is cut to celebrate the 35^th anniversary. This once small tavern has operated out of this location on the corner of Jamestown Road for the last 35 years. It has expanded several times and is a perfect destination for everyone in the family. The Anniversary Party officially starts at 3pm, with DJ Batman at ‘the mic’ until 6pm, DJ Rupe 6-9pm, DJ Blazin Hott 9pm-2am. There will be complimentary food from 3-6pm, various drink specials and Turtle Trivia with prizes from the Greene Turtle Apparel Shops.

The Turtle opened in 1976 and was bought by Steve Pappas & Tommy Dickerson in 1980. They worked for the original owners who asked them to purchase it. This location at 116th Street is now referred to as “The Original Greene Turtle” or “Greene Turtle, North Ocean City”. This is because in 2003, The Greene Turtle, after having 5 locations owned by Steve & Tommy and 2 other friends, Mike Sanford & Billy Packo, established its franchise company. The Greene Turtle Franchising Corp. now has 28 operating locations in markets across Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia and Delaware. Combining comfort food, a casual atmosphere and a sports bar theme marked by big screen TVs broadcasting local and national events, “The Turtle” has become a popular year-round destination for families and friends of all ages.
