Proposed
Changes to the bylaws:
§
Article 10, Section 12-A: Scholarship Committee A......It
will also be the responsibility of the Committee to suggest the amounts of the
(individual) Scholarships to be awarded, (but the total of all scholarships
shall be no less than 50% of whatever funds are in the Scholarship Account on
February 1st of the award year). The
Committee shall submit those recommendations to the RR44 Board of Directors for
approval.
Areas to be changed are in parentheses.
·
President’s
Message July 2012
This will be a short one as there is other important
news in this newsletter including a proposed by-laws change and info on a
number of upcoming RR44 events.
The proposed by-laws change relates to the amount of
scholarship money to be given out each year.
The current wording basically says that the Scholarship Committee has
the responsibility to suggest to The Board the amounts to be awarded based on
the funds raised, but it does NOT give any guidelines on the total amount
available or how much reserve for the following year is reasonable. The proposed change adds that the Committee
will suggest the amounts of the INDIVIDUAL scholarships, but the
TOTAL to be given out each year will be no less than 50% of whatever
funds are in the Scholarship Fund on Feb 1st of the award year. The intent is to: 1) increase the amount of
the individual awards; 2) give out more of the funds collected in any given year
and; 3) keep a reasonable reserve to assure that even in a bad fundraising year
the scholarships can still be given. The
date of Feb. 1st was picked because that is when the Committee has to send out
information to the schools detailing the amounts of the scholarships to be
given. The exact wording of the proposal
is included elsewhere in this letter.
Please read it. The proposal will
be read at the July and August general meetings and included in the next
newsletter before it is voted on by the general membership.
Tom and the Entertainment Committee have been busy
organizing and picking dates for several
fun social events including the July Picnic, Boat Raft-Ups (I did not pick ANY
of the dates this year), another Crab Feast (the last one was FANTASTIC) and
the Christmas Party. Details are
enclosed and signup sheets will be at the meeting
A special thanks to Sandy Tarras for agreeing to
Chair the Audit Committee.
Maggie is still taking orders for the new RR44
logo shirts and additional Jersey’s.
As a reminder, several of the standing committees
need volunteers to help with their various activities. If you have the time, please consider lending
a hand. If you or another member
is ill, in the hospital or recovering from an operation, please call Cindy
Brought @ 302-245-5673.

Did you know that heaven and hell are actually right next to each
other? They are separated by a big
chain-link fence. Well, one day hell was
having a big party and it got a little out of hand. God heard the ruckus and arrived to find his
fence completely smashed by the wild partiers. He called the devil over and said "Look,
Satan, you have to rebuild this fence." Satan agreed. The next day God noticed that the devil had
completely rebuilt the fence...but it was 2 feet further into heaven than
before.
"Satan!" beckoned God. "You have to take that fence down and put it back where it belongs!"
"Yeah? What if I don't?" replied the devil.
"I'll sue you if I have to," answered God.
"Sure," laughed Satan. "Where are you going to find a lawyer?"

The
following was found posted very low on a refrigerator door:
Dear Dogs and Cats:
The dishes on the floor with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Placing a paw print in the middle of my plate does not mean that is suddenly your food, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.
The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Racing me to the top of the stairs is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out on the other end to maximize space that you are taking up, is nothing but sarcasm.
For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom! If, by some miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge in an attempt to open the door. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine/feline attendance is not required.
The proper order for kissing is: Kiss me first, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough.
Finally, in fairness, dear pets, I have posted the following message on the front door:
TO ALL NON-PET OWNERS WHO VISIT AND COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR PETS:
(1) They live here....you don't.
(2) If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.
That's why they call it “fur”-niture.
(3) I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
(4) To you, they are animals. To me, they are adopted sons/daughters who are short, hairy, walk on all fours and don't speak clearly.
Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they:
(1) eat less,
(2) don't ask for money all the time,
(3) are easier to train,
(4) normally come when called,
(5) never ask to drive the car,
(6) don't hang out with drug-using people;
(7) don't smoke or drink,
(8) don't want to wear your clothes,
(9) don't have to buy the latest fashions,
(10) don't need a gazillion dollars for college and
(11) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children...

Happy Independence Day. In
case you weren’t sure:
o STAR SPANGLED BANNER
Words by Francis Scott Key
Music by John Stafford Smith
Oh say can you see
by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hail
at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad strips & bright stars,
through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched,
were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare,
the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night
that our flag was still there.
Oh say does that
Star - Spangled Banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free
and the home of the brave?

So fly with talons spread wide
Go in and strike with Ravens pride
Fight! Fight! Fight!

Dive in and show them your might
For Baltimore and Maryland
You will fly on to victory
