From the Prez
– Once again, we had a great time at
the Council of Roosts Convention Parade. We rode a boardwalk tram and dressed as
tourists. Congratulations to Susan who
directed the operation, Frank for the great music throughout the parade and Jo
Ann and Mary for helping to get the tram. We all had a blast. When we stopped in front of the Review Stand,
here's what was read to the crowd by the judges:
Welcome Ocean
City's Raven Roost #44. Roost #44 celebrated
its 20th Anniversary last year! Our scholarship
golf tournament, our New Years Day Penguin Plunge which raises money for our
local hospital and donations to many local charities, food banks and other
worthy causes have accounted for over $265,000 since Roost #44 was
formed. And we have fun too! Our summer picnic, Shorebird games, crab
feasts, bull roasts, pub tours, casino trips, away game road trips, Christmas
parties and countless trips and tours from Tangier Island to Wallops Island. We have sponsored home game bus rides and
countless tailgate parties since the Roost began. And we dedicated Johnny Unitas Way which is
19th Street and planted the Johnny Unitas Tree in Northside Park. Raven Roost #44 is pleased to welcome the
Council of Raven Roosts and all its members to our hometown!
Remember that your Roost Membership card entitles you to a 20% discount
on food, beverage & apparel purchases at the Original Greene Turtle (116th
St.). We encourage all Roost members and
committees to patronize the Original Greene Turtle!
Remember that we collect plastic grocery bags at every Roost
meeting. These bags are used by Diakonia
(Local Food Bank & Homeless Shelter) to distribute food contributions to
the needy. My white Ford pickup truck is
parked in front of OC 360 at every Roost meeting. Simply put your plastic bags (tied up
tightly) in the bed of the truck. This
is a great way to recycle plastic bags for a good cause.

Entertainment:
o Tentative Entertainment Schedule 2018
§ July 14 – Annual Picnic
§ July 19 – Shorebirds Game - Shorebirds
Event Thursday evening 7/19/18: $28pp (includes
2 hr. buffet, table/chair seating, giveaway visor & $2 pint cans)
The status is that we have 32 signed up ( + actually 2 bus drivers that
we pay for food only for them). Of the
signees 26 have paid, I have now booked it with a deposit and we are good to
go. But we still need some more
to sign up - especially for the bus because with 19 bus riders the cost pp
would be about $10. Let’s get some more for
a safety valve and lower bus costs.
§ September 29 – Crab Feast
§ November ? – Harrington Bus Trip
§ December 7 – Christmas Party
o Potential Activities Under Discussion
§ Bus Trip to Canton
§ Duckaneer Cruise
§ Pub Crawl Kent Island

Joe passed away. His will provided $30,000 for an elaborate
funeral.
As the last guests departed the affair, his wife, Helen, turned to her oldest friend.
"Well, I'm sure Joe would be pleased," she said.
"I'm sure you're right," replied Jody, who lowered her voice and leaned in close.
"How much did this really cost?"
"All of it," said Helen. "Thirty thousand."
"No!" Jody exclaimed. "I mean, it was very nice, but $30,000?"
Helen answered. "The funeral was $6,500. I donated $500 to the church. The wake, food and drinks were another $500. The rest went for the memorial stone."
Jody computed quickly. "$22,500 for a memorial stone? My God, how big is it?!"
"Two and a half carats."
