From the Prez –
Scholarship
Golf Tournament
We still
need our members to beat the bushes and sign up sponsors and donations to the
22nd Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament being held on May 31st. Informational materials on how you can help or
donate are available at each Roost meeting.
As
usual, we are looking for donations of beer, wine and liquor for the Basket of
Cheer for the luncheon. Donations will
be picked up at the April and May Roost meetings. Members are also encouraged to sign up a T
Sign Sponsor, make an individual donation or donate special sports memorabilia
you may want to contribute for the luncheon held after the Tournament.
We also
need volunteers to help get materials ready the day before the Tournament and
to help run the Tournament at the Ocean Pines Golf Course. Come join us, it’s fun! See Don or Eric to see how you can contribute
and help.
Remember
that your Roost Membership card entitles you to a 20% discount on food,
beverage & apparel purchases at the Original Greene Turtle. We encourage
Roost members and Roost Committees to patronize the Original Greene Turtle. By
the way, the Original Greene Turtle is a major sponsor of our College Golf
Scholarship Tournament every year and we appreciate their support.
My white
Ford pickup truck will be at the next meeting. The back will be open if you would like to
donate plastic bags to Diakonia (local food bank and homeless shelter). The bags are used to help distribute food
contributions to the needy. Simply put
your plastic bags (TIED UP TIGHTLY) in the bed of the truck. This is a great way to recycle plastic bags
for a good cause.

Komen Ocean City MORE THAN PINK Walk, Inlet Parking Lot, the Boardwalk,
and Baltimore Avenue
Ocean
City, MD – Susan G. Komen Maryland told supporters to expect some changes at
its annual fundraising walk next spring. Komen has been hard at work on the
next evolution in the history of the Race for the Cure® series, and residents
of the Eastern Shore will be among the first in the country to see it!
Komen Maryland has selected to be one of twenty-six locations across the country to launch the new Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK WalkTM event, which along with a new name will include a fresh new look and experience focused on energizing the community around the lifesaving work Komen’s supporters make possible. This new approach is based on input from participants across the country, data from nine pilot events in 2018, and by Komen’s own observations from years as the leader in breast cancer walks.
“Much of what you have come to love about the Race will continue with our new MORE THAN PINK Walk,” said Michael Jessup, executive director of Komen Maryland, “These changes are intended to increase people’s connection to our work beyond breast cancer awareness. Together, we are more than pink–a community of people who want to do more for research, more for our communities, more for those among us who are living with breast cancer – including metastatic breast cancer – and more action to get us to cures.”
The biggest difference is that the MORE THAN PINK Walk will not have a separate timed run element, focusing instead on the vast majority of the event’s participants who walk, rather than run, during the event historically. This change will create a greater sense of community among participants and will provide a more personalized, emotional experience for all who attend.

Funny Poop
·
A guy goes into a bar and orders a beer. As he takes a sip of his beer, he hears a tiny
little voice say: "Nice tie." He
looks around but sees no one. He takes
another sip of his beer and hears: "A nice shirt, too." Again he looks around and sees no one.
He signals the bartender over, and hesitantly explains that he's hearing voices talking to him…"Of course," smiles the bartender. "It's the peanuts -- they're complimentary."
