From the Prez - Remember the August 10th Roost meeting switches to The Big Easy (the former Halls restaurant) on 60th St. at 7:30pm. Restaurant is open with full menu before the meeting. Very big thanks to the House Committee - Donna Chaplinski and Ron Apperson for all their work in securing the locations for the June - September Roost meetings. As of November 1st, Jo Ann Elder is resigning as Membership Chairman. Jo Ann has handled all the duties of the Membership Committee basically by herself for years. The Roost By Laws call for a Membership Committee of 3 members. So we are looking for 3 members to step up and handle the duties and functions that Jo Ann has handled by herself. These include processing new member applications, maintaining the Roost Rooster, administering the attendance list at Roost meetings and managing dues collections. Jo Ann will be happy to assist members in learning and becoming comfortable with these functions. By dividing all these duties up by three people, I think the time needed to serve on the Membership Committee will be greatly reduced and manageable for the new Committee members. Please contact me as soon as possible if you are interested in stepping up. We need your help and support! And Jo Ann deserves a break (and our thanks)!I will try to have my white, Ford 150 pick up truck in a visible spot at the Big Easy for the next meeting for members who want to bring plastic or paper grocery bags for Diakonia. Thanks, Diakonia really appreciates these donations to help give out food to needy families or individuals. Is there interest in getting together at the Roxana Moose Lodge to watch the London game? They open at 9am in time to watch the game. Thanks for the suggestion, Nelson.

Tomorrow - Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Freeman Stage. Trombone Shorty's new album opens with a dirge, but if you think the beloved bandleader, singer, songwriter and horn-blower born Troy Andrews came here to mourn, you got it all wrong. That bit of beautiful New Orleans soul —"Laveau Dirge No. 1," named after one of the city's most famous voodoo queens — shows off our host's roots before “Parking Lot Symphony” branches out wildly, wonderfully, funkily across 12 diverse cuts. True to its title, this album contains multitudes of sound — from brass band blare and deep-groove funk, to bluesy beauty and hip-hop/pop swagger — and plenty of emotion all anchored, of course, by stellar playing and the idea that, even in the toughest of times, as Andrews says, "Music brings unity."In the last four years, Andrews banked his fifth White House gig; backed Macklemore and Madonna at the Grammys; played on albums by She & Him, Zac Brown, Dierks Bentley, and Mark Ronson; opened tours for Daryl Hall & John Oates and Red Hot Chili Peppers; appeared in Foo Fighters' Sonic Highways documentary series; voiced the iconic sound of the adult characters in The Peanuts Movie; inherited the esteemed annual fest-closing set at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in the tradition of Crescent City greats like the Neville Brothers and Professor Longhair; and released “Trombone Shorty,” a children's book about his life that was named a Caldecott Honor Book in 2016.Adding to that legacy, his Blue Note Records debut “Parking Lot Symphony” finds Andrews teamed with Grammy-nominated producer Chris Seefried (Andra Day, Fitz and the Tantrums) and an unexpected array of cowriters and players including members of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Meters, Better Than Ezra, and Dumpstaphunk.Assigned seating events require tickets for all patrons, including infants and toddlers. No re-entry allowed. Seats are provided.

Friday - 50th Anniversary Summer of Love Songs from the Woodstock Generation, Freeman Stage. The Summer of Love Concert is a concert experience that has audiences reliving the memories. Throughout 2017, Glen Burtnik’s Summer of Love Concert will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love – 1967, focusing on musical highlights of that year (as well as great songs from 1968 and 1969), which unofficially kicked off with the release of The Beatles “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” plus the release of many seminal rock albums from The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, The Rolling Stones and The Jimi Hendrix Experience.Comprising of 12 or more performers including a horn section, strings, keyboardists, percussionists, background vocalists and an incredible rock rhythm section, The Summer of Love Concert recreates “note for note and absolutely live” the songs and the psychedelically flavored spirit of the Woodstock Generation. The songs run the gammet from the psychedelic songs to rockin’ album tracks to a sprinkling of now hip Top 40 pop from that era.BYOC- Bring Your Own Chair. Children age 12 & under are granted free entry to The Freeman Stage for all General Admission performances and must be accompanied by an adult.

My wife and I were comparing notes the other day. 'I have a higher IQ, did better on my SAT's, and make more money than you,' she pointed out.'Yeah, but when you step back and look at the big picture, I’m still ahead,' I said. She looked mystified. 'How do you figure?''I married better,' I replied.
