Weekly Poop 4/29/2020

Roost #44 Poop
·         (Frank’s note: All items subject to change/cancellation)

·         From the Prez
·         Greetings and hope all is well with everyone.  I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m looking for arrows on the trails during our daily walks.

·         During a discussion with board it has been determined to have the June July August and September meetings at the Ocean City American Legion.  Ron Apperson will have more information on this venture to find a home.

·         I have talked with the Castle in the Sand to hold our deposit for the hospitality room for next year.  Some of the other Roosts in the Council are proceeding with the same decision.

·         Please stay tune for any updates from the Governor and Mayor of Ocean City on when some of the restrictions will be lifted and some of the phases be implemented.

·         Again please stay safe…keep social distancing...wear masks where required…wash hands…and keep your sanity while staying home.

o    8/13/2020 – Monthly Roost Meeting
o    10/31/2020 – Bull/Oyster Roast
o    12/12/2020 – Christmas Party

·         Membership: Still accepting 2020 dues through tomorrow.  Still $30 - Cheap! - Please mail your dues to: Susan Berterman, 12290 Dixie Drive, Bishopville, MD, 21813.

·         Wellness: Please call Marian Cicero @ 410.250.2501 or 443.880.0862 if you know of a Roost member in need of a message of encouragement or a sympathy card for a family member.  Please, no texts or emails.

·         House: Abbey Burger as a meeting site this year will not happen.  They have decided to remain closed for the rest of 2020 and hopefully reopen with a fresh start in 2021.  We will have at least our next 2 meetings at the American Legion whenever we and they start up again.

·         Scholarship Golf: As you know, the Golf Tourney has unfortunately been cancelled, but fortunately, this year’s scholarships will be awarded.

Indian River, Stephen Decatur and Worcester Preparatory High School counselors are gathering 2020 Scholar/Athlete applications for our review in May by our Scholarship Committee.  We plan to award scholarships later in May.

Schools haven’t determined if there will be formal scholarship awards/graduation events yet.

·         Convention: The Council has decided to cancel this year’s convention and parade.

·         Penguin Swim:  Until further notice, the Penguin Swim fundraising activities have been put on hold.  Once it is safe to do so, we will start planning events.  Fundraising efforts for the 2021 Penguin Swim Team will be starting sometime in April.  Events in the planning stages include: Wine/Beer tastings at local wineries and brew pubs, the annual Booze Cruise, Guest bartending events, and another charity weekend at The Shrimp Boat.  Our Team goal for this year is $16,000.

·         Entertainment:
o    Entertainment meetings are suspended until further notice.

Christmas party booked for 12/12 from 6 to 10.  Upcoming are Duckaneer Pirate ship mid-August, trip to Tangier Island, hopefully away trip to Houston, depending on date, pub crawl on Kent Island in May, crab feast in October and a bull/oyster roast/Halloween party on 10/31, Capitols game in fall.  We'll keep all posted on dates.

o    Shorebirds Game: Unfortunately, Marty cannot chair this event committee as hoped, so we are looking for someone to take over.  July 16 seems to be the likely date, but we need to move quickly - March is the month the Shorebirds usually try to get a deposit from us.  Anyone interesting in heading this event please contact Donna as soon as possible.  Look for an event sign-up sheet at the next meeting.

·         Good of the Roost:
o    POSTPONED: Join Elks lodge members and their guests for a fundraiser that will be held in the downstairs lounge on Sunday, 04/26/2020 in honor of Joann and Bob Elder.  The lodge will open at 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  This date is in stone but other details have to be finalized.

But here is a teaser: Spaghetti dinner with two meatballs, marinara sauce, salad, garlic bread and dessert; $10.00; will be served cafeteria style.  Cash bar, regular drink prices.  The bar will donate a percentage of the proceeds to Joann and Bob.  A big thanks to Steve Gough for underwriting this event for the lodge.  Again.  Elks Care Elks Share!

Betty Arvin and Gayle Hughes will be accepting donations of baked goods the night before the fundraiser (04/25/2020).  A sign-up sheet will be on the door by the ATM machine...please write your name and the item you will be donating.

Elks are asking us to donate a Basket of Cheer and any other items like Jerseys, sweatshirts, tickets to a game maybe that can be raffled off to benefit Joann and Bob.  Please bring any bottles of Wine or Liquor WITH A Maryland Stamp (Elks said this is required) to our next 2 meetings March and April.

Ravens Poop
·         Good daily dose of Ravens news notes and nuggets here.  It’s getting to the point where I can hardly stand ESPN, but you can go here to stay up to date with all of the AFC North news.

·         Out and about and can’t watch the game?  You can listen to the Ravens on the radio! (I know, right?)  Go here: https://www.baltimoreravens.com/game-day/coverage for the list of affiliates.

·         Follow all the Orioles news on MASN here from columnist Roch Kubatko.

·         According to literally all pundits, the Ravens had a stellar 2020 draft.  Here’s what our expert has to say: “The Raven’s had The Best Draft in recent Memory!  Sports Illustrated & Mel Kiper gave the Ravens an A, The Athletic ranked The Raven’s #1 out of 32 teams, meaning we had the top draft!

Highlights of the Draft were that we drafted two of the top 4 inside linebackers, 2 of 4 receivers who had over 100 catches this year & a running back that had over 2,000 yards in one of the toughest conferences in the country.

As if the draft wasn’t good enough, The Ravens signed 20 Undrafted Free Agents after the draft including, 2 very good Tight Ends, 2 Centers, 2 Edge rushers & run/pass QB that has a chance to beat out McSorley for #3 QB.  There’s so much more, Bob, I’ll need 30 minutes @ the next meeting, which will come soon enough!

Miss You Guys, Be Well, Raven’s Steve.”

Local Poop
·         Everything is cancelled.  Practice you social distancing.  We’ll get through this.

Funny Poop
·         My boss texted me, "Send me one of your funny jokes, Frank."
I replied, "I'm working at the moment, Sir, I will send you one later."
He replied, "That was fantastic, send me another one."

Etcetera
·         Got Poop?  Let me know!  I’m going to try to get this out every Wednesday so if you get it to me by Tuesday, I’ll try to include it.  Your input is appreciated.
